What Rohingya Refugees are Facing Right Now

There are a few things that are causing the Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh to be vulnerable. First is COVID-19, which requires people to be socially distanced, which is quite difficult in the refugee camps in Bangladesh, which is one of the most crowded places on Earth. The advent of the corona virus also affected the numerous aid personnel, infecting UN workers and refugees alike.

Yet the future to come is even more dismal. The monsoon season in Bangladesh has amongst the most rainfall, causing floods and landslides, even to settled locals. This environmental disaster is often critical to the refugees, which can further worsen the situation that has already been bad from COVID-19.

Another prediction to look out for is the advent of winter. Although tropical, some regions of Bangladesh have cold dry winters, which is an ideal spreading ground from COVID-19 (as seen by the world in the winter of 2019/2020).

While the outlook for refugees in Bangladesh is rather dark, there still are aid workers who, despite being in danger of COVID-19, still work to mitigate the damage done by the monsoon season and the winter to come.
