When pictures of armed members of the numerous drug cartels of Mexico come online, people often look over the fact that the arms are from the US arms industry. Recently one photo got attention because a member of the cartel was holding a top grade sniper from the US. In addition, a large portion of the income of the cartels also come from the US, as the US consumes an enormous amount of drugs, which is mostly made from Central America.
Because the US buys tons of drugs and supplies the cartels with firearms, the drug industry is massive, and causes a huge number of murders in Central America, especially Northern Mexico. One of the major reasons why Mexico has such a low life expectancy rate is because of such insecurities.
Like such, it is no overstatement to say that the US has a large responsibility in creating such awful situations in certain regions in Central America, as seen in the movie Sicario. But when it comes to taking in Mexican refugees that flee the extremely violent and dangerous environment caused in part by the US, the US does not take many.
Because of that, contrary to what most people think about the US-Mexico border, there are refugee camps along the border, where people live in tents and without much of a future to thrive in the modern system. I think it is time US takes further action to resolve the violence in Central America and try to reduce the people who have to become refugees to survive.
