There's been a new proposal in the EU to remove the previously held mandatory quotas for refugees and move towards a financial compensation for each refugee taken. Countries will be offered 10,000 Euros for each adult accepted into the country.
The issue of refugees has long been a matter of conflict in the governments of EU, where countries like Hungary and Poland refused to take any refugees. With the refugee crisis affecting certain countries more than others, this rule seems to ease pressure on the border countries of EU such as Greece and Italy.
The direction this takes is clear. More freedom for each state of the EU, and also less refugees taken overall. Yes, I understand that there are a number of things that can stop a country from taking in more refugees, but I still think the countries should take in as many refugees as their economies/social conditions allow for, and perform their humanitarian duties.
