Get to Know the Olympic Refugee Team

One thing that lie in our subconscious mind is that we often perceive refugees as someone inherently different from us, especially if we don't know individuals well. However, they really are like us. They think like us, and achieve their goals like us.

One individual has demonstrated this. Yiech Pur Biel is a refugee from South Sudan who fled in 2005. But through intense training, he became an Olympian for 2016 Rio Olympics. In addition, he has become a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the United Nations branch that focuses on refugee aid and relocation. Throughout his involvement with UNHCR Yiech Pur Biel has been active in trying to reduce chaos in his home country, and keeps developing towards his goals.

Too many refugees are held back because of their status as a refugee. In the world of progressive thoughts, we should begin looking at refugees as a part of our community.
